Miscellaneous Tips for Safety Around Your home:

    • Have burners and boilers serviced annually
    • Clean heat ducts and cold air returns
    • Inspect and sweep chimneys
    • Remove dust and dirt from electrical heating elements
    • Wood stoves and pipes should be cleaned and inspected for wear and tear
    • Test all smoke detectors and replace old batteries
    • Make sure you have adequate smoke detectors installed throughout your home
    • Inspect all appliances for wire damage
    • Make sure no electrical outlet is overloaded
    • Place all medicines and cleaning products away from children and pets
    • Store any flammable materials such as gasoline or propane in safety containers away from the home
    • Do not use gasoline or other flammables inside the house
    • During winter months, turn off valves and drain pipes for outside faucets to avoid freezing
    • Don’t leave cooking unattended
    • Don’t use the oven to heat the house
    • Don’t leave burning candles unattended
    • Read and follow safety instructions for any portable heaters
    • Do not place portable heaters closer than 3 feet to beds or other objects
